A lot of people make fun of me for the kind of movies I watch!!! Esp my love for the movies such as “Side Ways”, “The Clock Maker”, “The Man Who Loved Women” and most of all “The Mosquito Coast”. Well I am adding one more to the list, “The Worlds Fastest Indian”
Played by Anthony Hopkins, here is a brief over view of the movie, which I shamelsessly took from the BBC site. One thing I learned from GE, which is been with me for 5 years now “COPY SHAMELESLY”
"Proof that obsession can be contagious comes with The World's Fastest Indian, an affectionate portrait of a real-life Kiwi record breaker that took director Roger Donaldson 30 years to bring to the screen. Its subject is Herbert J 'Burt' Munro, a plucky pensioner who repeatedly broke the world land-speed record in the 60s on his modified Indian Scout motorbike. As played by Anthony Hopkins, he emerges as a likeable eccentric whose refusal to see out his days quietly will strike a chord with geriatrics* everywhere.
*Geriatrics = Age old person"
I seriously recommend this movie to anybody who loves slow movies and who loves speed, loves bikes, loves collecting bikes, loves challenges and to an extent loves Anthony Hopkins!
The movie to me talks about passion, being a street racer once my self, riding an under powered bike I know what is it to win races only by passion and aggression and all my friends who’ve been with me would vouch for it…. I’ve never lost a race then… those were the days…
This guy is the same, he races at 67 in the beach with a group or punksters with an under powered bike(with which he goes set the land speed record later...) and loses miserably!!! He still does not give up… his friend a 8 year old kid once tell him “ my dad says the whole town believes that you are not going to make it” his reaction is just a chuckle!!!
The best part of the movie is when he leaves New Zealand to go to Utah… the guys to whom he lost the race in the beach come up to him and give him some money and tell him “ here you go mate… some beer money and make us all proud Burt!” Wow! That I would rate the best part of the movie!
The way he sets the land record the first time or the movie it self is very very dramatical… I mean it would qualify for a any masala movie in Chennai, but keep in mind it’s a real life story… and that’s why its makes the movie unbelievable…
A good watch!
