Well its been almost 50+ hours I saw sunlight or the roads… its curfew time here in Kathmandu. So can’t go out or do anything. If we go out people would shoot us, I meant the army!!!
It started on Thursday, it was a night curfew that technically starts at 11pm and runs till 6 am. It was fun, because people here hang out till 10 pm, like all the dance bars, disco’s all of them are open till 11 and a few of them are open all night. People here are so used to curfews and are so fearless they actually hang out till 10:45. The roads are filled with people and suddenly everybody disappear at 11.
First day of the strike I was scared and didn’t go out anyplace, in the afternoon I was forced to go out for a walk by a few friends here, we walked about 6kms as there is no mode of communication, we reached a common friends place, Sudharshan Karki – His name, he is a documentary film maker, an angry old man I would say.
Had some good beer and he organized for a private screening of his documentary… Man it a quite an experience, open air theater, just 6 of us and watching movie… documentaries, people who know me well would know how much I would have liked it!!!
It was till about 8 and these guys wanted to go out for diner, so we went out to a place called manasulu and had dinner till about 10 and we walked back to my hotel… Remember the curfew starts at 11pm…finally managed to reach hotel by 1055…
That was the last day I was out… since then it has been curfew during the days too… eating and watching movies in hotel room… No Phone lines… No Internet… Curfews here mean, totally cut off from the world!!!
Hopefully the curfew is over from tomorrow… so I could get back to work!!!
